Syarikat Permainan Malaysia

SPM not Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia k !!!

It popped out of my mind when i watched Masaaki Hirano the judge of Iron Chef... he somehow reminded me of my fav game compendium of 30 games which has a pic of an old man, n 2 children playing.

I remembered looking at this pic, how wonderful to see a family like that.. of course and also i dont know.. but i seem to love looking at that pic.

Ok.. here is a brief history of the company.

==============================================

Established in 1976, SPM Syarikat Permainan (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. is the largest, multiple award winning indoor game producer in Malaysia. At present, SPM produces over sixty models of games and sells over 300,000 sets annually.

It is estimated that approximately 1/3 of Malaysians has played an SPM game at least once in their lifetime. It is now the largest board games producer in Malaysia certified by the Malaysia Book of Records in December 1998.

History

SPM Syarikat Permainan (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. was established on 26th June 1976 by Perak born inventor Ting Sie Bing.

An inventor since his early years, Ting turned his hobby into a successful profit generating enterprise, gaining worldwide recognition in the process. Constantly looking for new ideas and concepts, Ting stumbled upon what would be his flagship product whilst working as an instructor for a government industrial training institute.

One day, he noticed a few of his colleagues using the English word game SCRABBLE® to play in Bahasa Melayu (BM). They were struggling and found that there were a lot of unused tiles at the end of the game. Ting pondered over this and concluded that the frequency of alphabets used in the English SCRABBLE® could not be used when playing the game in BM. For example, the letter 'A' appears three times more frequently in BM than it does in English.

Recognising the need for a BM version of the popular English word game, Ting started to develop the BM version, studying a BM dictionary to determine the frequency of the alphabets needed for a successful BM edition. Working part time, it took Ting four years to research the gaming requirements required for a BM version of the English word game. Ignoring the whispers and comments of those around him who thought that he was eccentric at best, Ting developed the hugely successful SAHIBBA® and SPM Syarikat Permainan (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd was born.

Ting left his job and started SPM to market and sell SAHIBBA® in 1976. Initially working out of his home, Ting has since expanded his business into a multi million ringgit venture and in the process garnering many local and international awards.

OK, this thing was around long time ago when i was a kid. I am sure many of my Malaysian friends have one of this. If you cant afford those expensive electronic consoles or maybe expensive games such as Monopoly or Scrabble.. dont worry this games are your local board games.

I know u all will say copyright but i am sure this has copyrighted also if not copyrighted can u see many of this fake board games being created.

Ok back to topic.. somehow the games made by this company are well accepted by many. Many great games they have created which are affordable for kids which are chess, congkak, carrom, dam, saidina (Malaysian version of Monopoly), Sahibba, (a malaysian version of Scrabble), and many more.

If my memory serves me correctly, i enjoyed this games with my cousins and family as well. They are great games. A memory that lasted. In the future i want my children to appreciate this old school games which every men, women and children have played also this is games of our ancestors. Those days we dont have computer games which are also expensive and sometimes makes no sense (E.T for one example).

THis board games i dont care monopoly or what, they should be kept as good old times games. I think now during the economy downturn, I am sure many will buy this games which dont use electric and many many hours of unlimited fun for any sort of occasion.

btw i am out of words about this games bcoz they are just simply amazing... so amazing that i cant describe it with words.. all i can say.. try one n see the differences..
